Chris Osborne moved to the Birmingham, Alabama area in 1996 and became an award-winning reporter and videographer at ABC 33/40. He was one of the founding members of the ABC 33/40 news team. In all, he has 19 years of experience working in radio and television in Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois and Alabama. Chris is originally from Morristown, Tennessee near Knoxville. He’s a graduate of Tennessee State University and proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., former committee chair with the Alabama Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and graduate of Leadership Shelby County Class of 2013.
In 2007, Chris launched a new career in Public Relations with the American Red Cross as the organization’s Public Affairs Officer for the Birmingham Area Chapter. Just two years later, he was promoted to the senior management position of Chief Branding Officer, and later Regional Communications Officer for the entire state of Alabama. In that role, he was responsible for internal/external communications, community outreach, media relations, digital media and served as one of the agency’s representatives on the Project SHARE Advisory Board, which helps elderly and disabled citizens with utility bills. Chris was also the Government Relations Liaison working closely with elected officials. He played a major role in nationwide coverage of the Alabama April 2011 tornado disaster response efforts. Chris was a renowned member and trainer in the Advanced Public Affairs Team or (APAT). In that role, he traveled to large scale disasters including Hurricanes Irene, Sandy and the Atlanta Floods as a spokesperson dealing with national and international media like CNN, Reuters, BBC, ABC and others.
In 2015, Chris returned to his roots on the air, hosting the NPR radio show All Things Considered on WBHM 90.3 FM. Currently he is the Public Relations Manager at the Jefferson County Department of Health. In his new role, Chris is responsible for the organization’s communications strategies and implementation among other tasks including media relations and special project and event planning.
Chris is a specialist in crisis management and conflict resolution. He is a member of the communications consulting firm Positive Position www.positiveposition.com and facilitates media coaching seminars and classes around the country. He enjoys mentoring interns and students seeking careers in the communications industry. When he’s not at work, he spends time on the golf course or his motorcycle.
Chris is married to his wife “Tiffany” and they have a son, William Jr. and daughter, Olivia Grace.
